Could you tell us a little about Büro Destruct:

BD-Profile
With the aim to encourage and promote young artists, HGB Fidel created the Destruct Agency in 1992. Teaming up with the graphic designer Lopetz in 1994, the "Art Agency" changed into the graphic design bureau destruct or "büro destruct" as it's known today. It wasn't long before the friends and co-students at the school of art and design in Bern - MBrunner, H1reber, Pedä Siegrist and Heiwid - joined in. HGB Fideljus left the bureau, to plough deeper into art. The current crew consists of three graphic designers (Lopetz, MBrunner, H1reber), one 3D-renderer (Heiwid) and one web-coder (Jules). The work of BD consists to a larger part of designing print matter like posters, leaflets, flyers, cd's and books, -predominantly in the cultural sector. A speciality of the bureau is creating fonts, of which some can be downloaded from the website. This is how the bureau more and more gets to do logo-CI/CD-programmes for (inter)national customers. The 1999 book "büro destruct", published by "Die Gestalten Verlag - Germany", offers a sort of retrospective on the bureau's work of the last four years.

From looking at the companies work it seems that you base your philosphy around pure creativity, is this the case:
creativity for us is one of the upmost basics of BD. we are always trying to give our work new faces. we think it's really boring if you've defined a style and then being tortured to continuing it the whole life.

How does such a small team of people handle such a large volume of work
and still be able to produce the quality that you are producing:

Friendly question, thanks. we try to give our best, thats all. maybe it's because we are some sort of fast computer maniacs. maybe it's because we do often reduce our graphic language to the minimum.

Do you think this 'smallness' in company terms is what keeps Büro Destruct fresh:

we love to be cute. we really don't wanna grow to be fat and slow.

Does the fact that you are in a small city and not a major New York/London type city also influence your designs:

I think our small and comfortable city/country helps us to concentrate on our work. sure influences are coming from our homebase, but traveling to other countries/cities is for us also a very important source of influence.

Büro Destruct gives designers all over the world inspiration, where do you guys at Büro Destruct seek inspiration:

(see above). music and computergames takes also a major part of our inspirtion.

The majority of your work is print based, will Büro Destruct be branching into the internet and Multimedia more in the future:

can't say that at the moment. but sure is print-design is still our favorite language. webdesign can be sometimes very annoying. we only like to do websites, when the client let us fully-freehand.

Do you have any new projects coming up soon that you can tell us about:

the next project is our büro discotec event update on 5.5.2000. it is our own büro destruct clubnight featuring visuals to the theme Bern. (last time it was Tokyo). www.bermuda.ch/bd/discotec.html

Büro Destruct has a great reputation down here in Australia...
true:

we didn't know.

... as you do all over the design world, what do you know about Australian design/designers:

unfortunately we don't know much about your country and your designers. there is a lack of information coming to switzerland.

Thanks BD!
